The Royal Renegades – Holiday Show 2009
Event photography of Viewer Discretion Advised, a drag show hosted by The Royal Renegades at Wall Street Nightclub.
I usually don’t post so many images from events, because the posts can become huge… but there were just so many great photos I could not resist with this show! The lighting was great, the talent was talented, and I was in photographer heaven!

Wall Street is so eerie when it’s empty! I loved the sign the Renegades used for this show, don’t you?
Ho ho ho!
Backstage antics…
Mr. Dexter Wilde gettin Erkel with it!
What a perfect impression of a snobby dance instructor!
Alvin and the Chipmunks stopped by
Bearing gifts…
Of BOOZE!
Ring My Bell… Renegades style!
JAC Stringer fabulous as always! I also suggest having a look at his website, there you will find some very good articles and food for thought!
Viva! brought her Prince…
And some well places mistletoe…
The Royal Renegades gave us a lesson in proper Hebrew spelling
I wish I had a better shot of Viva! in her glasses and braces… she got very white and nerdy for this number!
Just Jake’s first performance – you would never know he was a “stage virgin” that night!
This Renegades number made you think about a different perspective on the holiday season – loved it!
OK this was the most amazing thing. The song was “Don’t Stop Believing” and the ENTIRE VENUE broke out in song. I was like WOW!

Last Art Suspension – Trail of Terror
Event photography of a suspension performed at Trail of Tears by Last Art Tattoo in Lancaster Ohio.
This was the first suspension I ever attended. I was really glad to have the opportunity to go “back stage” and photograph what goes on before such an event!
Suspensions are one of those activities that fascinate me, but I have zero interest in participating in personally. In all honesty, it gives me the heebie jeebies to puncture flesh in any way, I can’t stand getting shots or piercings! Tattoos don’t bother me so much, because they don’t go as deep. Anything else, just makes me woozy! Not to mention all that weight hanging there whoa… just not for me!
I have a great deal of respect for suspension artists though. Back when I took these photos in 2007, I had never seen this before. Now, I have a lot of friends who perform this way.
The actual piercing was done at the shop in a sanitary environment, the performers were then bandaged up for the trip to the venue.
Suspension is definitely not something to take lightly. The guys doing this show were so careful, and organized – they were prepared. But something still malfunctioned with their pulley system, so the performance was cut short after the first suspension. No one was injured, but I think once there was a mishap they felt it would be better not to attempt another suspension. That is why there are two people with hooks but only one actual suspension.
Trail of Tears – Scene Setters
The Trail of Tears is a pretty good haunt. It is out in the middle of nowhere in a rural area outside of Lancaster. I was not able to go see everything, but what I did get to check out was all great fun! I couldn’t find a website for it, so I have no idea if it is still open in season.
Preparations…
Anticipation
The corks are there so that the sharp edges of the hooks don’t poke where they shouldn’t!
Crowd reactions – the redhead on the far right makes me smile!

You will see there is usually a photograph of The Rev standing on a chair, this is a Royal Renegades tradition. Call it a pep talk. Rev’s pre show sermon. It gets the energy going for sure!
I wish I could recall every performer’s name, but I cannot. Feel free to comment and let me know who is in some of the photos I post without names, I am happy to update the post with their name and links to their websites or facebook! Below on the right is Dick Steele!
Harlequin Blush is dressed like a bunny but when I see this photo I think meeeeeow!
Viva Valezz, Surly Manson, and I know her actual name but I don’t use those. I think it was her first time on stage, at least as a lead solo act, you would never have known. She killed it!
One of my favorite photos of Surly, who looks vulnerable and serene…
The Rev getting sausaged out
Viva! and the Velvet Hearts. Le Provocateur made an appearance in the beginning of this number, to escort the lovely Viva! on stage with Mr. Dexter Wilde and quickly exited stage right to snag photos of the rest!
Major thanks to my good friend Just Jake for being trustworthy enough to hand my camera to, and still getting a usable shot of me on stage even though he had no idea how to operate it!
Ceci My Playmate always has the hottest numbers. She likes to tie girls up and do a little fire play on stage – it doesn’t get much better than THAT!
